Channels of Blessing

Leviticus 27:30

And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.”

Acts 5:2

There are huge canals like the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal. And there are channels that helped fuel commerce and trade on a smaller scale: the Erie Canal in New York, the Royal Canal in Ireland, and the Alter Strom in Germany. A canal is a channel that allows movement between two points.

As God’s stewards, we are channels of His blessings. Part of God’s reason for blessing us is so we might channel His blessings to others. In the early days of the Church in Jerusalem, believers sold their possessions and gave the funds to the apostles to give to the needy. One couple, Ananias and Sapphira, lied about the amount they donated; they held back part of God’s blessing out of greed. And their decision cost them their lives. When we fail to channel God’s blessings to others, we must examine our motives.

Giving becomes a joy when we realize that what we are giving is not ours but God’s. When we open our hands to others, God can fill our hands again.

A point to ponder…

God has given us two hands—one to receive with and the other to give with.
