Over Planning

Ephesians 4: 11-16

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine…”

Ephesians 4:14

The Bible uses an interesting expression to describe how many of us live during the holidays—to and fro. Psalm 107:27 says, “They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.” Amos 8:12 speaks of people who “run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord, but shall not find it.” Joel said, “They run to and fro in the city” (Joel 2:9).

But 2 Chronicles 16:9 gives a different insight. It says, “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”

During holidays, it’s easy to be overcommitted. We include too many activities in our calendars, accept too many obligations, plan too many trips, buy too many presents, bake too many cookies, and spend too much money. Why not deliberately under-plan? Take a deep breath and say “no” to something.

A point to ponder…

Plan some quiet time with the Lord instead, to strengthen your loyalty to Him whose eyes run to and fro throughout the earth, strengthening those committed to Him.
